What is GLA:D™

GLA:D™ is an 8-week education and exercise program.

Who is GLA:D™ For

GLA:D™ is for those with stiff and/or painful knees and/or hips, or those with knee and/or hip osteoarthritis.

Why Participate?

Research from GLA:D® in Denmark show participants report less pain, being more physically active, reduced use of painkillers and fewer individuals on sick leave.

Your Initial Assessment

During your first visit a certified Physiotherapist and/or Kinesiologist will:

Assess your eligibility for the program

Run two Physical Tests to set your baseline so improvement can be tracked

Discuss time-line and expectations of the course

Review and tailor the exercise program to your level of function and goals

Participate in the GLA:D™ Canada Database

If you decided to participate, you will register on-line at GLA:D™ Canada

You will be sent an email with a link to complete the consent and the first pre-GLA:D™ Canada questionnaire

This information will help us monitor how the program is working for people with osteoarthritis all over Canada and ultimately will help us improve the program

2 Education Sessions

The 90-minute education sessions will teach GLA:D™ Canada participants about:

What is osteoarthritis, risk factors and symptoms

Current available treatment for osteoarthritis

How to self-manage your symptoms

Why and how exercise can help with your osteoarthritis

How to cope with the difficulties of daily activities associated with osteoarthritis

12 Neuromuscular Exercise Sessions

The 12 60-minute individualized group exercise sessions are run twice a week for 6 weeks.  They are led by a certified therapist where you will:

Learn how to control your movements and proper posture

Build muscular strength through functional exercises

Learn how to apply these exercises to everyday activities

During your last exercise session the two Physical Tests will be re-tested and these results are provided to you.

Billing & Payment

The total cost of the GLA:D™ Canada program is $395. This includes program hand-out, 12 exercise sessions, 2 education sessions and the pre and post assessments.

In order to reserve your spot in the program the full amount of $395 is required up front.

Billing to your Extended Health Benefits

Because these sessions are individualized group exercise therapy sessions run by a GLA:D™ Canada certified therapist, we are able to bill this program to your extended health benefit plan.

In order to reserve your spot in the program the full amount of $395 is still required up front. As you attend each session we can bill to your extended health benefit plan and you will be reimbursed the amount your plan covers.
